Goodbye Summer Show w/ So So Glos, Team Robes, DeathSet, Ninjasonik, Wild Yaks, & More!

If you're a fan of the current Brooklyn music scene then this might be the best show ever (flyer below). My only question is where's Boogie Boarder and Matt & Kim? Oh wait, there's "special guests" - OK, I get it. The show is $10, which isn't bad at all for an all day thing and it's at the Broadway Backyard.

**Update: According to MyOpenBar there's going to be some kind of free booze too.

I just got back from seeing O'Death at Music Hall. As always they were fucking awesome! Meryl Streep was hanging out next door at Public Assembly.

Anyway, I'm resting up at home, gonna chow down on some chicken corn chowder and then head out. There are a million things to do tonight, where I'll end up I have no idea but it will likely be one of these.

Children, maybe we can thank the doom and gloom of modern times (recession, war, climate change, etc.) for the sudden resurgence of metal. Well, metal never really went anywhere but recently the hipster kids have been getting in on the action.

You see, despite all the shit talking over the years the fact is most Brooklyn hipster kids are secret metal heads. In high school they were totally pumping fists to Pantera - don't even try to deny it.

Nowadays bands like Mastodon, Converge, The Sword, Early Man, etc. have been dubbed hipster friendly (which still freaks me out a bit - I mean why Mastodon but not Lamb Of God?). To take advantage of this trend Vice and Colt 45 are giving us metal heads some free beer and three bands to make our ears bleed. Oh and bring your girlfriend, there will likely be a shortage of females - don't worry, you won't be able to hear her complain anyway.

New Year's Eve In NYC

First of all if you plan on going anywhere near Times Square tonight stop by a pawn shop on your way, buy a cheap gun and blow your stupid brains out. That said there's plenty of good shit going on tonight.

If you've got the balls to brave the city then I suggest hitting Don Hill's for the Rated-x/Trash NYE party with Team Robespierre. Aside from that most of the parties that have caught my eye are going down in Brooklyn. I was going to put together a huge list of parties but it looks like my homeboys over at MyOpenBar and Shaw Promotion have already done that.

I'm a big fan of MOB parties. With tons of free booze and rowdy bands what's not to love? You know what else I love? Parties that are within 5 blocks of my apartment. Well this might be the best party ever because it's an MOB party 3 blocks from my apartment!

Tonight: Open Bar At Mojito Loco + Voter Registration Party At Crest

A couple blocks away is cool little joint called Mojito Loco. The food is kind of a mix of various Latin cuisines. It's overpriced for the neighborhood but still worth stopping in for lunch every once in awhile. Despite being a restaurant they also have a decent little bar and have daily drink specials. Tonight, in an attempt to get more drinkers, they're having an open beer bar from 11-12. Hopefully it works because I would love to have another place to drink around here besides Duck Duck. While you're in my hood stop by Nijasol coffee shop on Montrose - best coffee I've had in a very long time.

Also, there's a voter registration party at Crest Hardware on Metropolitan. Loads of free booze and food at that one but it already started so get there quick.

Tonight: Secret Threads Sample Sale, Brazilian Girls

Secret Threads is having a sample sale. Sneak out of work or take some summer hours because this thing starts early (3PM-8PM). Speaking of starting early - there will be free booze! Looks like someone is passing out before 11 tonight (you). If you can still function enough to navigate the subway system then head to Prospect Park for a free Brazilian Girls show.

Party in Brooklyn tonight. I hear the Apes are playing, actually I thought I saw it on MOB but now it's not there so who knows. Maybe I was hallucinating... damn delicious moldy bread.

Tonight: This Is Ivy League @ Knitting Factory (FREE Beer)

Tonight Ivy League... umm, excuse me, This Is Ivy League are playing a $10 ($5 if you RSVP... too late, sucka!) show at Knitting Factory. It's early, the opener (New Jerk Times) hit the stage at 7:15 and Ivy League go on at 9. The free beer, courtesy of MyOpenBar, starts flowing at 8PM sharp and goes until it runs out, so let's say 8:20.

New Year's Eve Parties

Here's the deal, I'm kinda sick of NYE parties. Most of them are just a bunch of over-priced bridge and tunnel magnets. So this year I'm staying in Brooklyn. I'll hit a few house parties and then head over to the MyOpenBar party in Greenpoint with Yeasayer! Plus you get vodka and beer all night for a measly $15. On the off chance I head into the city then the only party you'll see me at is the Rated-X/Trash NYE party.

It's fucking Halloween you freaks! If you can't find something to do tonight then walk into your kitchen grab a knife and plunge it into your neck. Anyway, here's my plan for the night: First I'm heading to the Gramercy Theatre to see HORSE The Band and Between The Buried And Me! This is going to be an incredible show, especially on Halloween.

After that I'm walking a few blocks north and checking out Shindig, which might be almost over at that point but whatever. Then if I can still walk I'm heading to the MyOpenBar party in Brooklyn, where the mighty Apes & Androids are playing. And don't forget about Motherfucker, that should be pretty awesome as well.
