Smell The Glove Blog Launched + Next Party August 26th

You know that awesome party I throw with my buddy Carlos called Smell The Glove? Well, we decided that it needs a blog of it's own. We just finished setting it up and we're still tweaking it but give it look. That will be the go to spot for party info.

While we're on the topic, the next Smell The Glove will go down on August 26th at St. Jerome's.

Metermaids Sleigh Bells Remix

This is the first time I've heard of the Metermaids. From what I've gathered they're a couple of native Williamsburg kids that are doing the hip hop thing with a hipster twist. Unless you just got off the boat from Kansas you might remember a Williamsburg that wasn't the posh, hipster wonderland it is now. Kids that grew up here grew up with hip hop, not the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. That said, the indie thing started here over 10 years ago so it makes sense that we're starting to see the lines blur a bit. I dig what these guys are doing, but then again something like this happened once before and we ended up with fucking Limp Bizkit.

Mishka Sale, 50% Off

I'm not getting any bucks or gear for posting this but I know you Brooklyn punks fucking love Mishka gear so I thought I'd share. Everything in the entire online store is 50% off! Damn, son. Go stock up if you haven't already.

And since I can't look at a Mishka shirt and not think of Ninjasonik (maybe this is why) here's a soundtrack for your shopping pleasure.

IKEA Guitar Hanger Hack

Despite not being in a real band since 2000 (despite my youthful glow, I'm pretty old...punk) I still have about 9 guitars & basses. It's absolutely ridiculous but I just can't get rid of the damn things. They take up space I don't have. The acoustics I own are hanging on the wall on some guitar hangers I found on Musician's Friend. The problem is they stick out pretty far from the wall, which is great for thick body acoustics but sucks from electrics. They just kind dangle about 3 inches from the wall, literally blowing in the wind. They do make special hangers for electrics but they're about 4x more than the ones I bought. Today on LifeHacker they showed how to use cheap ass towel hangers from IKEA to mount your electric guitars nice a snug to the wall. I thought some of you might find this useful.

11th Annual Gathering Of The Juggalos, Aug. 12-15th

It's my favorite time of the year! It's time for the Gathering Of The Juggalos, which means a new infomercial. If you remember last year's then you know why I'm excited. While the 2010 version probably won't get spoofed by SNL, it's still pretty awesome.

THIS IS REAL.

The Gathering is a huge festival organized by Insane Clown Posse that happens out in the woods somewhere in the Midwest. It's basically a meeting ground where every bored, suburban, wanna-be gangster kid from malls across America gather for four days of clown makeup, drugs, carnival games, wrestling, breeding and head banging to 90's rap like Insane Clown Posse, Naughty By Nature, Coolio, Warren G, Twiztid, Tone Loc, Vanilla Ice and literally hundreds more, most of whom are ICP copy cats (I know). There's also some nu-metal surprises like (Hed)PE. There's also crazy shit like Todd Bridges ("whatchu talkin' bout Willis") wrestling, yup he's wrestling, and comedy from "Gallagher, up in this bitch yo." As terrifying as this all might sound I look forward to attending one year because sometimes ridiculous shit like this entertainment gold.

Jesus H. Christ, fucking Juggalos, man.

I repeat, THIS IS REAL.

God bless America.

Lady Gaga Stage Dives Damn Near Naked At Lollapalooza

Normally you wouldn't be seeing a Lady Gaga post on Brooklyn Ski Club but I have to say it takes some serious balls to stage dive into a crowd, let alone at Lollapalooza, when you're practically naked. There was much less crowd groping than I would have imagined. I commend you for your general classiness rabid horde, well done. The dive came during Semi Precious Weapons set. The video is courtesy of my old pal Bronques of LastNightsParty. It's all very Wendy O. Williams.

Fun Fun Fun Fest Is Pretty Awesome

I was just digging through some emails and had one from a few days ago with the Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup. Check this amazingness out: GWAR, Weird Al, Devo, Bad Religion, Mastodon, Suicidal Tendencies, Valient Thorr, Snapcase, Municipal Waste, Monotonix, Man Man, Dwarves, JEFF The Brotherhood and a shit ton more. And if you're more into the mainstream hipster shit then they've got MGMT and The Hold Steady too. It may literally be the best festival lineup ever assembled (complete lineup after the jump). The festival is November 5-7th in Austin, Texas...now I just gotta figure out how to get down there.

Have You Heard Forest City Yet?

One of my pals, Jamen, who is currently in Regal Degal with the Dinowalrus dude, also has a rather amazing country band called Forest City with one of the Boogie Boarder dudes. Forest City has been around for almost a year but don't play very often. If you were at my birthday party in October you might have caught them but they were pretty new at that point and are much better nowadays. I'd even go as far as saying they're one of the best bands in Brooklyn. They play classic country with a nice touch of rock n' roll. If you're a fan of Gram Parsons, The Band, outlaw country like Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings or Brooklyn band Gunfight then you'll love them.

Every year my family has a massive Memorial Day BBQ in South Jersey (near Philly). I asked Forest City if they'd be down to play and they decided to make the trip. They were only supposed to play about 45 minutes but the hundreds of attendees, ranging in age from 12 to 70, were so turned on by the music that they kept playing. Eventually bystanders started jumping in and playing along (there were tons of musicians from Brooklyn & Philly there).

This went on for nearly three glorious hours. People were dancing and passing around homemade brandy the whole time. It was one of those once in a lifetime experiences that people will be talking about 30 years from now and it was all because of the amazing performance by Forest City. It's not easy to entertain teenage punks, 20-something hipsters, 50+ year old hippies, grandparents and everything in between. There were literally random strangers showing up who "heard this amazing music from down the street" and followed it to the house. The next week my parents voice mailbox was filled with people trying to find out who the awesome band was that played followed by "best party ever." Which was heard not only from the locals but even the many jaded Brooklyn kids that were there too.

My point is, Forest City is fucking fantastic and you should at the very least listen to their album. When and if they play again I highly recommend seeing them play.

Free Primus EP

Primus is giving away a free EP on their website. I haven't downloaded it yet so I have no idea if it's worth the effort but, hey - it's Primus, right?

Bruise Cruise Festival, Miami to Bahamas (Bands, Food, Booze...About $700!?)

A booze cruise to the Bahamas from Miami with the Black Lips, Vivian Girls, Thee Oh Sees and a bunch of other bands, Jonathan Toubin DJing, open bars, food and gambling sounds pretty awesome. You know why? Because it's un-fucking-believably awesome.

The problem is it costs about $700 for the 3-day bash. Oh, and that's not including transportation down there and most of the booze (there are a few open bars packaged in though). When all is said and done you're looking at about $1,100, not to mention all the dough you'll blow at the craps table.

The festival is February 25-28th and they're only letting 400 people aboard. You'll literally be partying on a fucking boat in the Bahamas with some of your favorite bands for three days. I'm not sure I could handle more than three days of that but at the same time I could go to Mexico for a week with less cash than what this will run ya'. I love the idea - it's brilliant, but I hate the price tag. The rich kids that get to go are lucky little shits.

Anybody got a guestlist?
