Today: Rock Yard w/ Cerebral Ballzy, Death Set, So So Glos & More

Jelly NYC brings the party back to North Brooklyn with a free show this afternoon at The Morgan. The Death Set, So So Glos, Cerebral Ballzy, Japanther, The Growlers and CSC Funk Band are playing. That, my friends, is awesome!

Tonight: Wild Yaks @ Coco66; SHAPES & Raccoon Fighter @ Shea Stadium; TSOK @ Loft Party; So So Glos, Darlings, Sundelles @ 285 Kent

Lots to do in Brooklyn tonight. I will be at Shea Stadium for sure and will likely be hitting the loft party as well. The Wild Yaks show has a solid lineup but I think it's too far off from the rest to swing by. Bummer.

***Update: Forgot about this one & it's killer

Titus Andronicus & So So Glos Playing St. Pat's Shows With The Pogues!

I guess Shane MacGowan is a fan of the Brooklyn music scene. As always, The Pogues are playing their famous St. Patrick's Day shows in NYC starting tonight. This year they have local boys Titus Andronicus and So So Glos opening up for them. That's a pretty huge honor (especially since this might be the last time The Pogues play the States) and it should be great to see a band like SSG up on the big stage at Terminal 5 in front of a sold out crowd. Way to go dudes!

Rock And Roll Circus Night One (So So Glos & Japanther Destroyed)

CIMG7110

Last night was the first night of the Rock And Roll Circus at the Big Apple Circus tent in Lincoln Center. The show was free and some of Brooklyn's finest were playing. That combined with the fact that it's a show in a fucking circus tent meant there was no way I was missing it.

I got to the show early because I was worried about getting in. Turns out the tent is gigantic so I had nothing to worry about. After I got in I roamed around for a few minutes and eventually went to grab a beer. There was a sign on the bar that said, "$8 Beer, $12 Mixed Drinks". I'm used to pricey drinks at shows but holy shit man! And the cups were little 12 oz. joints.

Luckily, it was at this point that I checked my email and found out I was on the press list which not only got me backstage and front row seats but also came with free Sixpoint and Belvedere from the VIP bar! Drink in hand I was ready to party!

We entered the back room of the tent which was a big circus ring. There was a huge lit up "Big Apple" sign overlooking the circle with a slide coming down from a platform onto the floor. The show started with a huge drag queen who cracked a few jokes and announced the first band, Electric Tickle Machine. One by one the band members slid down the slide into the circle and took their places.

The tambourine player/hype man of the band was wearing a crazy balloon thing on arms with high waisted leather pants and green shades. I've seen ETM before at a DIY show at Shangri-La in Greenpoint. They were pretty good then but man, they've come a long way. They were fucking amazing last night! Super high energy, amazing songs and a great presence. They even included a cover of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" which was pretty damn good, and it ain't easy covering the Beatles.

After ETM finished up we went back for some more booze and wandered around a bit more. They had all types of booths set up for face-painting and shit like that but no carnival games. I would have dug a few carnival games but it's cool.

We missed the first song or two by So So Glos, they were already playing when we made it back to the circle. They sounded great but the vibe was kinda mellow for an SSG show. They noticed this too and invited everyone onto the floor to dance. At first everyone looked at each other wondering if they were serious and if rushing the floor would be kosher. Then our favorite drummer and good friend, Jamen of Regal Degal, ran out there and, upon seeing one person do it, a stampede followed.

Now there were about 75 kids on the floor dancing and crowd surfing and just having some fun. It was quite a sight with the circus tent and "Big Apple" sign as a back drop. They played about two or three songs with the crowd just going totally apeshit.

Then they announced that they had one more and upon kicking off the last song it got even crazier. Halfway through the last song of the set security rushes the crowd and

The Rock N' Roll Circus

I'm not really sure where to begin here. Basically a bunch of bands are playing the Big Apple Circus tent. It's a two day event and the first night is free. Night one includes Japanther, The Pharmacy, Voxhaul Broadcast, The So So Glos and Electric Tickle Machine. Night two, which is not free, features OK Go, Amazing Baby, Saint Hotel and Nick Zinner. There are also tons of sponsors involved who may or may not be dishing out free booze and food. They don't specify any freebies but it seems to be alluded to.

Picking up where the best of 1968's legendary rock superstars left off, the all-new ROCK & ROLL CIRCUS is a cutting-edge marriage of the best of circus spectacle with today's top musicians, creating a multisensory, explosive experience unlike any other live event available today. One of the longest running and top cruelty-free circuses, Big Apple Circus, recently featured in PBS' "Circus" documentary, will be hosting the event at Lincoln Center in the 40,000 square foot tents (used previously by New York Fashion Week). The spectacle is a rare event that brings unity to the progressive music community. Set for January 3rd and 4th - doors will open at 7pm and the show will start at 8pm on both days.

Tonight: Sounds Of Kaleidoscope & Los Toughfists @ The Church (House Party); So So Glos @ Showpaper Gallery

BSC favorites, Sounds Of Kaleidoscope, are in town and playing The Church. It's that DIY joint in Williamsburg on Manhattan between Meserole and Montrose. I've been to a few shows there and it's always fun. If you're more of the Manhattan island (as opposed to avenue) type then another BSC favorite, So So Glos will be playing the new(ish) Showpaper Gallery on 42nd St.

Tonight: So So Glos & The Rassle @ The Studio

Killer show with two really good NYC bands. The Rassle are half ex-Young Lords and half ex-Virgins (I think that's the equation). The So So Glos are one of the best bands in Brooklyn and are long time favorites of BSC. This is great show so don't stay home tonight.

Tonight: So So Glos & Titus Andronicus

So So Glos and Titus Andronicus are playing Monster Island Basement tonight. This is a fucking awesome show. It's $9, kinda steep for the venue but not bad for the bands playing.

So So Glos Not Playing Broadway Backyard Tomorrow

I knew it was too good to be true. Bikes In The Kitchen put together what looked like the perfect show. Then about an hour ago I found out that So So Glos dropped off the bill. Damn it! I bought a ticket and everything and now no So So Glos. This sucks...

Goodbye Summer Show w/ So So Glos, Team Robes, DeathSet, Ninjasonik, Wild Yaks, & More!

If you're a fan of the current Brooklyn music scene then this might be the best show ever (flyer below). My only question is where's Boogie Boarder and Matt & Kim? Oh wait, there's "special guests" - OK, I get it. The show is $10, which isn't bad at all for an all day thing and it's at the Broadway Backyard.

**Update: According to MyOpenBar there's going to be some kind of free booze too.
