Today: Out In The Streets Music Festival & JellyNYC Rock Yard
If you want some fun in the sun and you're in Brooklyn you've got two killer options. If you're in Bushwick there's the Out In The Streets fest, which is a street party with tons of bands including Sigmund Droid, Shadowbox, Fan-Tan and more. They're handing out free beer from 3-5pm, cover is $10. If you're in the burg then check out the JellyNYC Rock Yard. Motel Motel is playing that one with CSC Funk Band and bunch more. That party is free!

Tonight: My Birthday w/ Sigmund Droid, Hank & Cupcakes, Cerebral Ballzy, Radio America, & Forest City
Instead of creating a new post I'm just changing the date on this. So it turns out there's literally nothing else happening tonight. This is the only party in NYC. Weird, huh? I know it's hard to believe but it's true. All the listings on other website are Republican/Nazi/Communist propaganda. I'm the only on you can trust. So here's the info again...
--------------------
For the first time ever I'm having a public party for my birthday. I asked a bunch of bands to play and I think the lineup is pretty solid and fun.

Hank & Cupcakes: If you enjoy fun then this should be your favorite band. They've played 2 BSC shows in the past and were amazing both times. You will be dancing, I promise.
Sigmund Droid: These dudes have been one of my favorites for years now and have also played 2 Ski Club shows in the past (including the first ever). I'm not sure I'd be having this show if they couldn't play.
Cerebral Ballzy: This band is just fucking awesome! High energy thrash / skate punk. For those of you who know me it's pretty crucial that at least one metal/punk band plays my party and these guys are the best around.
Forest City: One of the first bands I reached out to about this show was Boogie Boarder but they couldn't play because of the Monotonix gig on Saturday. Then I was talking to my buddy Jamen and it turns out he just started playing in a band with one of the Boogie Boarder dudes. I went and saw them at Union Pool and it was fun so I asked them to play. They're a little bit of country and a little bit rock n' roll (sorry).
Radio America: Homeboys. Some of my best friends are in this band. Have known these dudes for years. Two of them used to write for Ski Club. I went to high school with one of them. This was a no-brainer. I mean they were going to be there hanging anyway, might as well throw some guitars on.
Cutie & The Catfish: CANCELED
DJs Yoshi Knicknock & Joe Eyeball: Philly DJs I'm related to. They know how to get you dancing. Lots of classic soul & motown, punk, garage, oldies, etc. Good music for a party. ***Update: There might be an issue with setting up turntables at the venue so might just be an iPod thing, which sucks but whatever.
It's going to be $3 at the door and please give a couple more bucks if you can. The bands are getting paid from the door and $3 ain't much so please be generous. Also, I might add another band but I can't say who yet.

My Birthday Party w/ Sigmund Droid, Cerebral Ballzy, Pow Wow, Radio America & More!

I survived the summer of 2009, ie. The Summer Of Death. OK, so the whole summer of death thing is bullshit and totally blown out of proportion but nonetheless it's a great excuse to celebrate being alive. So on October 9th come to Tommy's Tavern to celebrate my birthday. This is the first public bday party I've ever had so let's make sure it doesn't suck horse turds.
I chose Tommy's Tavern because I want everyone to be able to have an excellent time. What I'm saying is it's cheap ($2 Shaefer), you can dress however you want, and they let you have a good time. But most importantly it's not some pretentious club or lounge in Manhattan, which seem to be the preferred birthday spots for some reason.
While I hate to charge a cover for my birthday party I need to pay the bands so it's going to cost you $3. The entire door goes to the bands. I'm not making a fucking penny off this show, I just want to have a good time. Also, if you can afford to chip in an extra couple bucks for the bands at the door then you're a good person.

Tonight: Sigmund Droid, Bonnie Baxter, & More - Free Acoustic Show
Well this is going to be interesting! Sigmund Droid, Bonnie Baxter, and others will be playing acoustic sets at Northeast Kingdom. I'm super curious to hear what Sigmund Droid sounds like acoustic... I mean it's just drum and bass. I have an acoustic bass and it's pretty much useless unless it's plugged in. Also, Jeremy J will be DJing.Toilet Records presents night of music with no electricity for musicians to plug their guitars, basses, or pedals in to. Features bands that need to creatively figure out how to make this transition. It's going to be a pretty amazing night.
Here are the bands;

DJ Jeraliscious (Jeremy J Cohen)
DJ Rusala will spin Vinyl (Bass Player from Asa Ransom)
and special secret guests (Aas Mosnar)...Come check it out! It's free.

Sigmund Droid Playing Cameo This Saturday
Brooklyn Ski Club chums, Sigmund Droid, will be playing Cameo on Saturday. It's been awhile since they played (they've been recording) so this should be a lot of fun. The bad news is I'm going to be out of town, so let me know how awesome it was when I get back.

Tonight: Apes And Androids/APTBS at Music Hall. Sigmund Droid at Union Pool.
My two favorite NYC bands are playing shows right down the street from each other. First Sigmund Droid is playing a 9PM set at Union Pool. Then Apes And Androids are playing with A Place To Bury Strangers at Music Hall, which is the official Siren after party. Considering A&A and SD share members it should be a fun night running back and forth.

Apes & Androids @ Bowery Ballroom, Sigmund Droid @ Fontana's
Friday turned out to be one hell of a night. First of all Apes And Androids were headlining Bowery Ballroom. Considering I've probably written more posts about A&A then any other band I was pretty excited about that. Apes And Androids in front of a sold out Bowery - awesome!
I got to the show earlier then I expected. The first band hadn't even gone on yet. So I hung around in the basement. I snuck up a few times to check out the openers - both were pretty good. Free Blood was one of them but the name of the other is slipping my mind. Then Reggie Watts took the stage. I saw Reggie for the first time about a month ago at Rififi. He's a stand up comedian who specializes in creating hilarious songs on stage using nothing but a sampler and his voice. Friday night he did not disappoint. The crowd was loving it and even singing along - "Fuck Shit Stack!"
Then A&A came out and blew everyone's minds. I could go through and break it down song by song but by now I've reviewed so many A&A shows that it's hard to come up with clever phrases to describe how fucking awesome they are live. But I'll try summarize some of the highlights. The show started with a blast of confetti and streamers, which set the mood nicely. As always one of the best parts was about half way through when they busted out the drums and played "Golden Prize".
The finale, as expected, was insane. For one they closed with "Hot Kathy" by far my favorite song by A&A and in my opinion the perfect closer. Then the 8-foot tall unicorn monsters were led out from the back by two chicks in tight silver spandex. They lumbered around the dance floor trying not to tip over. Next up a chorus of people joined A&A on stage and followed "Hot Kathy" with the chorus to "Hey Jude". And that was that, minds were blown, lives were changed, and Apes & Androids made their point.
After the show everyone headed over to Fontana's for the official after party. Sigmund Droid played with David from A&A on guitar. Sigmund Droid shows are always fun but this one was extra insane. Not only was it the A&A after party but it was also Sol's birthday. The whole downstairs was packed full of people dancing and jumping off of shit - it was intense. After that I split but the party raged on. It was one hell of a night in outer space.

Tonight is the big night! Finally after years of talking about it I'm having a Brooklyn Ski Club party. Good times will be had. Special Announcement: Brooklyn Ski Club Presents Sigmund Droid
After a couple years of threatening to throw a party I finally did it. Things kinda fell into place perfectly and I didn't have to do much work so I said sure, why not? Sigmund Droid will be headlining the show with a super secret special guest on guitar. I seriously can't tell you who it is because of a conflicting show but I'm sure you can figure it out... you're pretty smart.
Additionally my favorite DJ is going to be on the decks - DJ Jess from Trash and NC-17. You'll also get a live set from The Kiss Off and more DJ stuff from Riot City. Did I mention the free vodka? Well, there is... at least for an hour (10-11PM). There's also going to be some free Red Bull.
Oh, and check out this super bitchin' flyer...
