Impose Was At Our Party, "Highest Quality Show...This Year" (Photos)

On Saturday Brooklyn Ski Club threw it's 5 year anniversary party with The Beets, Wild Yaks, Gunfight!, Spirit Family Reunion and Raccoon Fighter at Don Pedro's. The show started around 9:30pm and it was packed all night long.

I was running around like a maniac the whole night making sure the bands were all set and the door had change and what not. But everyone else there seemed to be having a hell of a good time.

We started promoting the show very late. Hell, we didn't even announce two of the bands until 4 days before the party. Needless to say I was a little worried about the turn out. But damn! People came out of the woodwork for this one.

Impose Magazine sent one of their photographers to the party and he said it was "the highest quality show I've been to this year"! I would be proud to hear that if it was January 5th but to get a compliment like that with only 3 weeks left in 2010 - well shit! I'm blushing. Thank you for the kind words Impose. And thank you to all the bands that played and everyone that came out.

Brooklyn Ski Club 5-Year

Tomorrow night Brooklyn Ski Club is celebrating 5 long and grueling years or party hopping, heavy drinking, bands, shitshows, dance parties, nudity and general debauchery. It's been rough but we've survived.

We've asked some of our favorite bands to come to Don Pedro's tomorrow night and celebrate with us. For a measly $6 you get to see The Beets, Wild Yaks, Gunfight!, Spirit Family Reunion and Raccoon Fighter. If someone else put that show together I would happily pay $10+ to see it and when you factor in the $1-$2 beers, well it's a steal! It will be sweaty and boozey and the next day you'll tell your friends who stayed home that they're huge assholes for missing it.

Lady Bree will be bartending, Impose Magazine will be photographing, Tom from Radio America will be DJing and I will be drunk...we all will be drunk.

Believe it or not it's been 5 years since Ski Club got started. Of course, there will be a party because that's what we do. I can't reveal all of the details just yet but mark the date (December 4th) and enjoy these videos.

Tonight: Gunfight @ Don Pedro's; Superfest 24-Hour Party

Start the night at Don Pedro's with Gunfight!, I'm Turning Into, Easter Vomit and more. The show is $6 and they're giving away free Joose 9-11pm. After the show head over to the Williamsburg Industrial Park and check out Superfest, which is a 24-hour party with bands, DJs, booze and food. Yes, it's really 24-hours nonstop!

Gunfight Album, Frontier Land (Free MP3)

One of my favorite Brooklyn bands, Gunfight!, recently released an album called Frontier Land. If you've had the pleasure of seeing these guys live then you'll recognize most of the songs on the album. The recording does a pretty good job of capturing the essence of their live shows. Considering they're one of the absolute best live bands in Brooklyn that's a good thing. If you want to check them out in action they're playing Cameo on August 21st.

The last time we saw Gunfight! was at a loft party with Hank & Cupcakes at the infamous McKibbin Lofts. As always the whole place erupted during Gunfight's set. Literally every single person in the room was dancing and passing around bottles of booze and just going apeshit. I've been to lots of Gunfight! shows and this happens every time, even at square joints like Crash Mansion (check out the video below from a Ski Club show at Crash Mansion, at about 1:54 we get a crowd shot of everyone dancing). Again, you have to go see these guys play live.

It's a good night for rock n' roll, especially punk. If you're in the Burg you've got two solid choices (Bikes In The Kitchen & Crashin' In parties) right across the street from each other. N.6th is the place to be tonight. There's also an insane Fucked Up show at the Masonic Temple. I guess all Fucked Up shows are insane but this time they've got Andrew WK and Vivian Girls as additional band members.

Gunfight! on Spin + Free Show Tomorrow

Gunfight, Live At Crash Mansion (Video)

Yesterday Gunfight played Littlefield for After The Jump Fest. They were awesome as always. Unfortunately it was pretty early when they played so the crowd wasn't jumping around like they normally do at Gunfight shows. On that note I wanted to share some video from the time they played the Brooklyn Ski Club curated show at Crash Mansion earlier this month. This band has quickly become one of my favorite NYC bands to see live, here's why:

A few weeks ago Jeremy form NY Underbelly asked me if I'd be down to curate one of his Friday night parties at Crash Mansion. I was a little hesitant because there wasn't much time and I was already having trouble getting bands for another show (which we eventually canceled). So I put the word out that I needed bands and to my surprise we managed to get a pretty excellent lineup together.

I've been a fan of Young Lords for awhile and have always wanted to have them play a BSC show. I was pretty happy when they agreed to play. Hank & Cupcakes played the BSC show at Market Hotel a few months ago and they were pretty awesome. I've been hearing about Gunfight live shows for the past few months from friends and I really dig the music they have online, I'm really excited to see them tonight. I've been going back and forth with Cinema Cinema for awhile now about having them play a BSC show but it never quite worked out until now. So yeah, that's the lineup: Young Lords, Hank & Cupcakes, Gunfight, and Cinema Cinema (not in that order), this is going to be fun! Also, our pal iLan is DJing so expect lots of rock n' roll you can dance to between bands.
