Tonight: TVOTR @ Music Hall; Black Lips & Vivian Girls @ Webster Hall; Chris Cornell @ Town Hall; Surf City & Darlings @ Glasslands
There are a ton of killer shows tonight. TV On The Radio ($31 - sold out)and Vivian Girls (w/ Black Lips, $20) are both dropping albums today and playing shows to celebrate. Chris Cornell is doing a solo acoustic show (w/ William Elliot Whitmore, who is amazing) which I would fucking kill to be at. Yes, his new solo shit is atrocious but then again have you ever heard the acoustic version of "Like Suicide"? Hearing that live is worth $50. Not down for big, fancy venues tonight? Surf City and Darlings are at Glasslands ($8).

Tonight: Black Lips & Ballzy @ The Shank; Wild Yaks @ Good Co; Tigersapien @ Glasslands
Lots of good music tonight in the Burg. The big news is the JellyNYC party with the Black Lips and Cerebral Ballzy. The show is only $5, which is awesome considering the average Lips show these days is like $20. Putting Ballzy with the Black Lips is pretty much perfection in the world of show promoting. The crowd is going to be foaming at the mouth by the time the Black Lips hit the stage.
The show at The Shank starts at 10pm so I suggest either hitting Good Co for Wild Yaks and Regal Degal or Glasslands for Tigersapien and French Horn Rebellion first.

Bottle Up & Go Playing With Titus Andronicus + New Song (Free MP3)

About a month ago Bottle Up & Go played the Brooklyn Ski Club show at Don Pedro's. The band's drummer Fareed had to split town at the last minute and it looked like we were going to be short a band. But Keenan and Andrew decided to drop by anyway and just play sans drums. They played a set that was heavy on blues covers and pretty damn badass. Coincidentally, they just released a new track which features just Keenan and Andrew performing a cover of O.V. Wright's "That's How Strong My Love Is." And yes, they played this at the show.

Twin Sister & Holiday Shores Played Glasslands 4/1
Meet Kate, she's the newest contributor to BSC. She went to Glasslands on Thursday and this is what went down...
----------------------
I don't know if it was the avant-garde loft, the first sunny day we've had in two weeks, or the stellar drink specials but I've never seen so many happy New Yorkers in one room as I did last at Glasslands on Thursday. I was able to catch 4 different artists, all equally as eclectic as they space they performed in.
I arrived to the venue around 9 just as Ocotillo was going on. The place wasn't too crowded and I was able to score a spot at the bar. Ocotillo sounded great. His performance was really low key and laid back, but at the same time enchanting.
As the hour grew later, the crowd grew larger. Next up was

Tonight: Soul Clap & Dance Off 3rd Year Anniversary Party
Jonathan Toubin is the dude who made NYC dance parties fun again. Tonight is the third anniversary of what may be the best party of the past few years, Soul Clap and Dance Off at Glasslands. He spared no details for tonight's celebration so do come out.

Tonight: Gunfight! & Shark? @ Glasslands (The Battle Of Unnecessary Punctuation)
What a fun show!?!?!?!?!?!?!? (see what I did there?). All jokes aside this will be lots of fun. I think I developed an ulcer so I'm staying home and curling into a ball...but you kids have fun. Don't you worry about old man Ski Club, I'll be just fine.

Tonight: Islands Music Video Release Party @ Legion; Babies, Beach Fossils, Sundelles @ Glasslands
Tonight is simple really. First you head over to Legion for the Islands music video release party and then it's over to Glasslands for a pretty excellent show. I just recovered from illness so I'm not sure whether or not I'll be partaking myself. Maybe I'll see you out there.

Tonight: Bowie Ball @ LPR -- Jingle Balls Ball @ Glasslands -- Rumanian Buck + More @ Don Pedros
Bowie Ball is the place to be tonight for sure but if you aren't in the mood for disco dancing and silver jumpsuits then I'd suggest the New York Night Train party at Glasslands or the show at Don Pedros. Rumanian Buck, Work Out, The Volunteers, Humboldt Fog, and our bros Radio America are at Dons. We'll be there tonight shootin' pool and drinking stale beer in the basement.

Tonight: Wavves; Suckers & Wild Yaks; Team Robes (Free Show!); Netherfriends
- Wavves @ Market Hotel: Wavves are pretty awesome and when I saw them at Bowery Ballroom the whole time I was saying to myself "This would be so much better at Market Hotel". $10
- Suckers & Wild Yaks @ Glasslands: Somehow I haven't actually seen Suckers yet. I don't understand how that's possible. But Rob from Wild Yaks swears that they're amazing and that's good enough for me. $6.
- Team Robespierre @ Legion Bar: This is my FUCK YEAH show of the night. A free Team Robes show at Legion Bar. Sign me up! VICE and Colt are involved too so there's going to be free beer. I may or may not hit the other shows but I will def be at this.
- Netherfriends @ The Glass Door: Netherfriends are an awesome band from Chicago. I thought I exchanged some emails with them a few months back but I can't find them so maybe I hallucinated the whole thing, damn you peyote. Anyway, this is a house party and my homeboy DJ Full Time Fun is spinning too. Also, Purple Crush is playing but I can't remember if I like them or not. $5, 98 Moore Street 2nd Floor.

Tonight: Drink Up Buttercup @ Glasslands; The Rapture
So yeah, The Rapture are playing Matchless tonight. That's going to be the biggest clusterfuck of the year. It's not easy getting a beer in that joint in under 5 minutes on a slow night there so this is going to suck. Also, it's tiny and everyone knows The Rapture are playing so expect 2,000 people to show up trying to sneak in the back door. It's awesome that The Rapture are playing a tiny little venue like Matchless (I think the stage room holds 75 people) and kudos to VICE for setting it up but this WILL SUCK, I promise you. Instead go to Glasslands and check out Drink Up Buttercup, they just got signed.

Das Racist Played A Surprise Set At Glasslands Last Night
If you weren't at the party at Glasslands last night then you missed one hell of a night. As you may have heard The Drums were supposed to play but then they dropped off with only a few days notice. Needless to say, Sean (from Raccoon Fighter, who organized the show) was in a bit of a bind. Then the Glasslanders told him they never booked a late night dance party for after the show. So the show and the party were combined and instead of booking a replacement band for The Drums, DJs were to be brought in. The end result was a party with 3 bands, 3 DJs and 2 open bars - each an hour long. More on the DJ part in a bit.
The show started pretty well, Radio America took the stage at 9:30PM and the room already had a decent amount of people. They played a fun set. How can you not with a room full of familiar faces guzzling down free Colt 45? After they finished, Raccoon Fighter came on and did their thing. They got some people dancing up front, which is always a good thing.
The Sundelles closed the band portion of the night with a killer set. I really dig them (I'm listening to their EP as I type this) and they always put on a good show. Unfortunately, the room cleared out a bit right before they went on. Boogie Boarder and Darlings were playing at DBA right around the corner and I think some people jumped ship to check them out.
The first DJs went on as soon as The Sundelles finished up. We got Das Racist, the "Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell" dudes, to spin which is pretty exciting considering they're all over the place right now. They were supposed to DJ for an hour but about halfway through their DJ set they stopped...and got on stage for a surprise performance! By now it was free to get in and the word spread to the party next door and DBA that Das Racist were performing. The room started filling up with people. Kids were sucking down the free sangria and then stumbling on the dance floor. It was fucking great, we had so much fun.
After the Das Racist set I hung out for a little longer and then I split because I was pretty wasted and needed a sandwich. The place was still jumping when I bailed though so I'm guessing all went well after that.
I forgot to bring my damn camera so I don't have any pictures. If you took any let me know and I'll post them here.

Das Racist DJ Set On Friday @ Glasslands
The Drums dropped from the BSC sponsored show on Friday, big deal? Not really because we added a DJ set by Das Racist and another hour of free booze! Hell yes! The party was originally supposed to be over by 10:30PM but now it doesn't start until 9PM and then it goes all fucking night. This will be super fucking fun.

Tonight: New York Night Train Soul Clap Dance Off And After Hours
Two killer parties brought to you by Mr. Toubin. First it's the Soul Clap Dance Off at Glasslands. Our pal Martin from Wild Yaks is one of the guest judges for the dance off. The Soul Clap party is pretty legendary so I'd suggest checking this out, especially since it's only $3 and there's free beer at 11. After that party ends the NYNT crew meet up with Todd P over at Market Hotel for the after party.

Brooklyn Ski Club Shows (The Drums, Young Lords, Sundelles, Gunfight, & More)
I just wanted to let you all know about the next couple of Brooklyn Ski Club shows. The first is at Crash Mansion this Friday. It's a NY Underbelly show that BSC curated. The lineup is pretty awesome, if I do say so myself - Young Lords, Hank & Cupcakes, Gunfight, and Cinema Cinema! Yeah, that's for reals yo. I'm going to probably get some killer DJ added to keep you dancing between bands.
The other show is the following Friday. My homeboys in Raccoon Fighter put the whole thing together and my other homeboys, Radio America, are playing too. I offered some advice along the way but didn't curate it. That said I am sponsoring it so while it's not a BSC show per se it kinda is. The lineup is again quite awesome - The Drums, Raccoon Fighter, The Sundelles, and Radio America. There is a catch though, it's the early show. So go straight from work, suck down some free Colt 45 from 7-8PM. Stick around for the bands and then go do your thing after, should be over by 10:30PM. It's the perfect way to start your night.
