Tonight: TVOTR @ Music Hall; Black Lips & Vivian Girls @ Webster Hall; Chris Cornell @ Town Hall; Surf City & Darlings @ Glasslands

There are a ton of killer shows tonight. TV On The Radio ($31 - sold out)and Vivian Girls (w/ Black Lips, $20) are both dropping albums today and playing shows to celebrate. Chris Cornell is doing a solo acoustic show  (w/ William Elliot Whitmore, who is amazing) which I would fucking kill to be at. Yes, his new solo shit is atrocious but then again have you ever heard the acoustic version of "Like Suicide"? Hearing that live is worth $50. Not down for big, fancy venues tonight? Surf City and Darlings are at Glasslands ($8). 

Deer Tick Adds Brooklyn Show (11/10)

Last week I mentioned that Deer Tick was going on tour but skipping good ol' NYC. Well, it seems that the situation has been remedied. Deer Tick will be stopping by Music Hall of Williamsburg on November 10th.

Free Tickets To OK GO + We Saw Black Lips On Thursday 4/29

Last Thursday I was at the old office in Union Square worrying about whether or not I'd be able to get into the free Black Lips show at Knitting Factory later that night. I was so worried in fact I cut out a little early just so I could go home and get changed before the show (I had a meeting earlier and was dressed kinda spiffy).

I left my office and hauled ass to the L train at 14th Street. It was about 5:30 or 6pm at this point, the height of rush hour. I walk down to the crowded platform and towards the end of the train. On the huge map I spot a white envelope with writing on it. I'm a curious bloke so I walk over to see what we've got. On the envelope in black ink I read:

Free tix to OK GO! (Sold Out Show) tonight...I can't go. You go, OK go! Please take if you're going to show. DO NOT RESELL - Cheers 

On the back it also said, "Good Karma. I [heart] Brooklyn." By now at least 50 people must have seen this envelope but thanks to Giuliani's many years of scaring the living shit out of people no one touched it. Surely, it must be Anthrax or something, right? But fuck it, I'll bite.

I grabbed the envelope and held it up to the light - looks like tix to me. I opened the envelope and there they were, sure as shit, four tickets to OK GO. I would be lying if I said I didn't

Tonight: UnProtected w/Emanuel & The Fear and Hank & Cupcakes; KSK Night Vision @ Trophy Bar

Start the night off at Music Hall of Williamsburg where The Film Shop is having a night of short films and music. I helped curate this jam so you should come hang. Emanuel and The Fear are playing. Hank & Cupcakes are playing. Jonny Santos is DJing. Doc Photog is shooting it. So yeah, good times my friends. Starts at 8PM.

When the show is over head over to Trophy Bar for Night Vision with Skinny Friedman and Pumpkin Patch for an all night dance party.

O'Death Played Music Hall (Northside Fest) Pics

Jen from The Music Slut had an extra ticket to the O'Death day show at Williamsburg Music Hall on Saturday. Being that O'Death is one of my favorite Brooklyn bands I gladly tagged along. The Hall was pretty empty but I guess that makes sense considering it was only 3PM. Nonetheless, O'Death put on one hell of a show. As I've noticed in other similar situations it seems that bands play better with smaller crowds. Maybe it's because they know everyone there is really a true fan, or something. Overall, I'd say Saturday ranks #2 on my awesome O'Death shows list behind only this one.
