Listen To Podcasts On Your Phone
There is a new company out there which assigns a phone number to any podcast. You can then dial that number from your phone and listen to the podcast. It's an easy way to stay up to date on frequently updated podcasts. Or you can create a podacst with your favorite tunes and dial it up. This way you can always have music on your phone without wasting memory.

CMJ - Friday (Dysrhythmia, Clinton, Stroke)
Friday night CMJ was a huge let down. I had a whole night planned out and damn near none of it materialized. My night started out just as I had planned with Dysrhythmia at Ace Of Clubs. I've been wanting to see these guys for years now. Somebody on public access used to play shitty videos of these guys playing live and I was always shocked by how awesome the bass player was.
Needless to say I was pretty excited to finally see these guys live. I screwed up and got to the club late and missed a few songs. The room was already packed when I entered and I had to push to get through the crowd. When I got up front I was instantly in awe of the skills the bass player has. He somehow manages to sound like Cliff Burton and Les Claypool at the same time. Dysrhythmia plays a mix of stoner and doom metal but it's all instrumental - and fucking awesome!
After the set I hauled ass downtown to Crash Mansion for George Clinton. I've seen George before (with Digital Underground no less) so I was prepared to leave if the line was out of control. Well guess what - it was! The damn lined the block. I'm sure it wasn't as bad as it looked since Crash is notorious for holding people at the door just so there's always a line outside - they want their shitty club to look cool. But I wasn't going to wait to get rejected so I made my way to Mercury Lounge.
I was headed to the Merc to see Albert Hammond of The Strokes. I was expecting a big line but there were only two people waiting to get in. I got in line and waited my turn but after about 10 minutes the door guy told us we might as well leave because no one else gets in until after 1AM. One guy stayed in line but the rest of us left. I stood outside with my pocket guide trying to figure out where to go next. As I was standing there Julian Casablanca tried to get in. The door guy had no fucking idea who he was and kinda gave him a hard time. Apparently Jules wasn't on the list so he had to wait outside until someone from inside saw him, which did happen after about 5 minutes. The door guy still ID'd him which was funny.
After that I headed to the Cake Shop - I can't remember why but that's where I went. Again I was rejected at the door. Oh glorious CMJ pass, if I knew you were worthless I would have just got on the fucking list. So that was Friday night - 1 for 4, pretty fucking sad. I have experienced rejection like that since middle school.

CMJ - Thursday (Apes, Lips, Bronson, Russia)
I'm finally getting around to my post CMJ coverage, sorry for the delay. On Wednesday I started off my night at Studio B in Greenpoint. There was an awesome line-up which included We Are Wolves, French Kicks, Thuderbirds Are Now!, Tokyo Police Club, and my boys Apes And Androids. Of course I was there for A&A (third night that week) and they delivered.
They left out all of the theatrics and just played. At first the crowd didn't seem to give a fuck but about 3 songs into the set I saw a few people dancing and everyone was bobbing their heads. When they played "Hot Kathy" anyone who had any doubts about these guys was obviously satisfied. They played an awesome set (which included some acapella Bel Biv Devoe) and made many new fans.
Normally I would have stayed at a show with such a killer line-up but the Black Lips were playing Sin-e and I had to run. After an impossibly long train ride I finally got to Sin-e just before the Black Lips took the stage. Unfortunately for me I was still outside in line. After about 15 minutes of not budging I got pissed and left. By that point they started already anyway.
After that I headed over to Mercury Lounge for Archie Bronson Outfit and Forward Russia. I've been looking forward to hearing Archie Bronson and god damn did they deliver. I was surprised by how damn hard these guys rock out. They have an early nineties Nirvana/Soundgarden thing going on, not so much in sound but for sure in energy. I really can't even properly explain how good they were.
Next up was Forward Russia. I've seen them before and I love their stage presence. Plus they are lots of fun to take pictures of - the singer doesn't stop moving around. Before they went on the drummer chick was standing next to me talking to her friend. She was saying how she had to start wearing a sports bra because when she wore a regular bra the strap would break and her tits would fly out of her shirt. So to aspiring female drummers - get a sports bra, unless you have a Courtney Love complex.
Anyway, Forward Russia took the stage and played a fantastic set. They are lots of fun to watch but honestly it's a bit repetitive musically. If you've seen these guys once then you'll never have to see them again since the show was almost identical to the last time I saw them.
I was tired when Forward Russia finished up but I had heard that the Black Lips were playing the Vice after party at 2AM. I decided to head over to Cake Shop and hang out until two. When I got their I walked in and was stopped at the door and asked if I was on the list - I wasn't, so I had to leave. The guy told me I could call someone inside to let me in but I didn't know anyone inside. Well, actually I did but not anyone who's phone number I had. I'm pretty sure Black Lips didn't play anyway so it wasn't a big deal.

Burger King Pot Whoppers
Oh this shit is classic, some kids working at Burger King thought it would be funny to sprinkle pot on the burgers some cops in the drive-through ordered. You know what, it's pretty fuckin' funny. Especially the part about them going to the hospital afterwards.
"I'm freaking out man - the colors are everywhere. I can hear them man! Let's go on the roof and see if we can fly" They watched Reefer Madness a few to many times. "Hey Bob - did you see Reefer Madness? Yeah, we better get to a hospital pronto."
