Tonight: Wild Yaks @ Bruar Falls

Our favorite Brooklyn band, Wild Yaks, is shipping out on their first national tour tomorrow (these kids are gonna be big someday I tells ya). Tonight will be your last chance to catch their hobo lullabies and drunken sea shanties live. Well, in Brooklyn anyway - for about a month or so. Violent Bullshit and Ill Ease will also be playing too.

Tonight: PBR Art Show; Team Robes @ Don Pedros; Far Out @ Macri Park

PBR is having an art show tonight and of course that means free beer. The open bar is from 9-10 and afterwards all PBR is a mere $1. The winner of the art show gets about $2K and a years worth of PBR (you drunks will make them pay dearly for that I'm sure).

There's also an awesome show at Don Pedro's tonight with Team Robespierre, Truman Peyote, Total Slacker, and more. There's supposed to be free Colt 45 at some point too but I don't k
now what time. It's $5 to get in the joint.

And if you're looking for something a little more mellow head over to Macri Park for Far Out where our pals Martin (Wild Yaks) and Julie G are teaming up for some DJ dance-a-rama.

Tonight: Strength Through Unity Benefit @ Bell House

The best indie rock Haiti benefit named after a 25 Ta Life album is tonight! The lineup is pretty fantastic and the tickets are $50. I know that seems steep in this day and age but it's for charity so suck it up and cough up the dough. Rick Ta Life was reached for comment and had this to say, "Blarghhhhh ragga gu rarg grahhallarggggh." I could not have said it anymore eloquently. The man is a true word smith.

New Brujeria Album + Webster Hall Show

Talk about good timing. I was just in central Mexico, and appropriately, listening to Brujeria sipping on micheladas. While I was basking in the Mexican sun I thought, "man, when is Brujeria gonna get off their asses and make a new album?" Well now, just 3 days back in the States, I get my answer.

Brujeria are currently working on a new album and announced a single show date which happens to be in NYC! The price is kinda steep ($38) but considering how rare a Brujeria show is I guess that's not so bad.

Oh, and also there's the fact that they're one of the most bad ass metal bands ever. I repeat EVER! Growling Spanish lyrics about revolution, Zapata, witchcraft, and the drug trade all told, with a twisted sense of black humor, by masked anonymous criminals. The music is the best parts of pre-Ross Robinson 90's metal (that dude ruined everything), somewhere between Chaos AD Sepultura and Soul Of A New Machine Fear Factory (which has an interesting Robinson story attached). Yeah, that's awesome shit right there.

Tonight: Bottle Up & Go @ The Studio (FREE)

Wavves Playing Free L Magazine Party @ Brooklyn Bowl

The L Magazine is celebrating Fat Tuesday with an indie rock show. Kinda weird right? Oh well, it's free and since SoCo is a sponsor I'm guessing their will be some kind of free drinks. To start the festivities there will be a parade complete with floats, costumes, and beads (show your tits!). It all starts at McCarren Park and then ends up at Brooklyn Bowl. You gotta RSVP to get in.

It'll be just like this, only colder and more hipstery.

Give Cerebral Ballzy Your Money

Cerebral Ballzy is making a 7" album with a grip tape sleeve and they need help pressing it. Now you're not just handing over your hard earned dough for nothing. No, the Ballzy boys have special gifts for you depending on what you contribute. For example, if you donate $4.20 "lead singer Honor will roll something up with your name on it and send you a photo of him smoking it." Or maybe you've got a little more to spare, "for $30 we'll give you $10." And it just gets better from there. Take a look and make a donation.

Tonight: The Sounds Of Kaleidoscope @ Trash Bar; The Drums & Surfer Blood @ Bowery; Ninjasonik @ Webster

So yeah, The Drums and Surfer Blood are playing together at Bowery Ballroom. I'm avoiding that show like the plague. It's going to be indie nerd blogger fuck fest at that thing. Ninjasonik is playing at The Studio at Webster Hall which is cool and should be fun. But I'm going to be at Trash Bar to see The Sounds Of Kaleidoscope because they're bad ass rock n' roll. If you haven't checked them out yet you should. They're from Philly and played one of the first ever Brooklyn Ski Club shows. I think the cover is $8 but Trash Bar always has an open bar or some shit right so it's well worth it?

Jay Reatard Is Dead

Jay Reatard was found dead last night. Dude was only 29 years old and so far no one seems to know how he died. The rumors started earlier today on Twitter and then Goner Records confirmed that Jay was in fact dead. Although I know there are still quite a few people out there that are convinced this is some kind of hoax involving the recent beef with Liquor Store. However, it appears that the cops are involved so it's past the point of elaborate scam and seems pretty real at this point.

My Hook Up List...

Here is a fine example of why it sucks to be a kid these days. Some chick ratted on her brother so he sought out revenge, and what sweet revenge it was.

Tonight: Agent Orange @ Mercury Lounge

One of my favorite old hardcore punk bands, Agent Orange, are playing at Mercury Lounge tonight. I've seen them a few times over the past few years and they still got it. Classics like "Bloodstains" and "El Dorado" still sound fucking great. Brave the cold for some surfcore.

Tonight: Islands Music Video Release Party @ Legion; Babies, Beach Fossils, Sundelles @ Glasslands

Tonight is simple really. First you head over to Legion for the Islands music video release party and then it's over to Glasslands for a pretty excellent show. I just recovered from illness so I'm not sure whether or not I'll be partaking myself. Maybe I'll see you out there.

Soundgarden Reunion Confirmed!

The rumors of a Soundgarden reunion have been flying around for about a year now. With the embarrassing failure that was Chris Cornell's solo career it's no surprise he's running back to Kim and the gang. In fact, Kim Thayil and the rest of Soundgarden already have reunited, just without their douchey front man.

Well, it's been confirmed by Chris Cornell that there will in fact be a reunion after all. As much as Cornell irks me I fucking love Soundgarden. Overall, they were the most consistently excellent band of the 1990's. Not only that but they've been around since 1984 and more or less invented Seattle grunge. They were also the first band from that scene to sign to a major thus opening the door to bands like Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and the slew of imitators.

The good thing is they're all relatively young still and since Soundgarden lasted longer then the rest of the Seattle bands (excluding Pearl Jam) it really hasn't been all that long since they've played together. Officially it's been 12 years which isn't very long for band who's members have been actively performing (Cornell - Audioslave & solo. Thayil - Boris, SunO))) & more. Cameron - QOTSA, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam & more. Shepherd...well, not much actually).

Frankly, with the exception of Rage Against The Machine this is the most exciting reunion in a very long time. However, given the shit bomb that was Cornell's solo album I'm worried about any new music they may be tempted to produce. I mean do we really need a Timbaland produced grunge album?

Anyway, I'm super excited about this and can't wait to see them live. I've never had the pleasure of catching Soundgarden in person and they truly are one of my all time favorite bands. Is it just a coincidence that plaid is cool again?
